Our History
The “Sandicam” prefix started in the mid 90’s not with English Springers but with Saint Bernards! Split into three, “Sandicam” has some Italian origins and rightfully so considering my heritage! “San” meaning Saint “Di” meaning of and “ Cam” of course - none other than yours truly!
Almost 10 years ago Stephanie Rickard of the Wongan kennel encouraged me to assist her with showing her winning English Springer Spaniels. This proved to be a very significant relationship with my association with Springers with Steph passing on much of her breed knowledge and presentation skills. My first Champion in the breed was Ch Wongan KD Lang, a daughter of the beautiful specialty winning bitch Ch Wongan Tatyana. In the years that followed I continued to handle the Wongans, but also the Kinsherans for Vin McPhee and Sheryl Roach.
Eventually, I founded a relationship with dearest friends and now co-owner/breeders Ross and Mary West of the famous Maketawa kennel. After a few false starts, I was keen to get my hands on some well bred, typey bitches and in the usual form the West’s generosity came to the fore. Our beautiful “Annie” Ch Maketawa Sweet Dreams (now co-owned) came to live with me and mated to a son of Gr Ch Wongan Amazing Grace produced my first homebred champion Sandicam High Command “Charlie”. Grace’s sister Ch Maketawa Hollyglow produced another two significant bitches for us – namely Ch Maketawa My Angel and Maketawa My Destiny. At this stage both have proved to be excellent producers and we have high hopes for their future litters as well!
Most of the dogs here now are heavily line bred to two of our most favourite Springers, Ch Clanach Wrath O’Khan and the gorgeous English imported bitch Ch Monclare Sugar N Spice. Most would agree that this breeding has consistently produced the type, balance and characteristic movement that goes with this breed and we aim to continue this heritage of quality.
Together with Adam Wright, now a partner in “Sandicam” and alongside Ross and Mary, we hope you enjoy the history and successes of some of our dogs and look forward to sharing with you our current successes.
Yours in Springers,
Cam Cavallo and Adam Wright.
